I am running Windows 7 and have Word 2010 and Word 2016 (from Office 365) installed. I have many documents created with Word 2010 and earlier versions. Word 2016 does not display some equation editor documents correctly that were created in 2010 and earlier versions of Word (Word 2013 had the same display problem). Some math operators (+, -, division, times, etc) and parenthesis () are missing in the Word 2016 display. Some are displayed OK. The document prints correctly in Word 2016 with all the operators, the operators are missing only in the display.

Also, Windows Explorer no longer previews older Word documents, I click on one of the older documents and nothing is displayed in the preview window. It seems that Word 2010 documents will get displayed after a minute or so but the math operators in equation editor aren't displayed correctly. Documents earlier than Word 2010 aren't getting displayed at all by Windows Explorer preview.

I attempted to set Word 2010 as my default program for .docx files but was unable to do that. I entered the path to Word 2010 executable (winword.exe) for the default program but .docx files still open with Word 2016.
